Lincoln Gap Wind Farm - Australian Tenders

Expressions of Interest have been called for work packages at the Lincoln Gap Wind Farm in South Australia - a $450 million project by independent power producer Nexif Energy.

The Lincoln Gap Wind Farm, located 15 kilometres west of Port Augusta will produce enough electricity to power around 155,000 homes in South Australia and offset more than 600,000 tonnes of CO2 every year of its operation.

The Lincoln Gap Wind Farm is a 212MW initiative involving the construction and operation of up to 59 Senvion wind turbines and allowances for battery storage of power. The project will feed into the national electricity grid via the Electranet transmission network.

The wind farm will be built on farmland on a raised plateau next to the Eyre Highway. It is expected to be commissioned in late 2018. This stage of the project will be operational by the end of 2018 and fully completed in May 2019.

Senvion is the Principal Contractor for the EPC delivery of the project and is working with Nexif Energy to maximise the opportunities for local businesses to support the delivery and operation of the wind farm.

The average construction workforce will be 110 – 130 people, with more than 50 per cent sourced from South Australia.

An important aspect of the project is the inclusion of 10MW battery storage at the wind farm as part of a major new development to more reliably integrate renewable energy into the National Electricity Market, with the large-scale battery delivering fast response storage capacity.

“We’re delighted to be bringing this long-planned project to fruition,” said Zeki Akbas from Nexif Energy Australia.

“Nexif Energy are committed to building something which will make a significant contribution to the renewable energy target while helping grid stability and reliability in South Australia and we anticipate the wind farm will operate for 25+ years, providing green, clean energy for the state.

“Nexif Energy has worked meticulously to develop a highly productive, innovative and practical renewable power model which will bring about real and sustainable benefits to South Australian communities,” Mr Akbas said.

Nexif Energy was established in August 2015 by Nexif, a Singapore-based independent power management company, and Denham Capital, a leading global energy-focused private equity firm with more than $9.0 billion of invested and committed capital across eight fund vehicles, to develop, finance, construct and opportunistically acquire conventional and renewable power generation assets across Australia and South-East Asia.

The Lincoln Gap wind farm will feature the Senvion 3.6M140 EBC turbine, which will be the first from Senvion's three-megawatt range to be installed in Australia. The first prototype installation of the 3.6M140 EBC was completed in Husum, Germany, in September this year.

Senvion is looking for local businesses that can supply services in the areas of construction and civil works. See the tender notification for the project at Australian Tenders as well as other current tenders relating to works at wind farms.
