Eligible South East Queensland construction companies are invited to tender for the construction of a new social housing complex in Upper Mt Gravatt as part of the Buy Queensland policy introduced in September.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the Buy Queensland policy, which came into effect on 1 September 2017, was fantastic news for local businesses looking to tender for the works.
“The project will be delivered as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $1.8 billion Queensland Housing Strategy, and it will support jobs for a range of trades including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, floor laying, block laying, concreting, plastering, cabinet making and painting,” Mr de Brenni said.
The complex will feature a total of 25 units, including 20 one-bedroom units and five two-bedroom units to cater for different household sizes. Nine of the units will cater for mobility-impaired residents. Notice of the tender is available at Australian Tenders.
Projects such as this one are part of a secure pipeline of work supporting the residential construction industry and jobs for local tradies. Through the strategy’s Housing Construction Jobs Program, the Queensland government is investing $220 million to build 684 social housing dwellings in the Brisbane region over the first five years.
Mr de Brenni encouraged local construction businesses with an office in South East Queensland to put in a tender for these projects.
“This investment will see work for small, medium and large construction businesses, supporting the equivalent of 125 full time local jobs each year over the five years. Buy Queensland will make a real difference to the lives of every Queenslander,” Mr de Brenni said.
