A tender has been released by the WA Department of Communities - Housing for civil construction services as the Burt Street Project moves ahead.
The Housing Authority, which forms part of the Department of Communities, is seeking to collaborate with a private sector developer or consortium who embraces our Vision for the Burt Street Project, to create a new affordable community that enriches the unique character of Fremantle.
This is a rare opportunity for a private sector partner to help develop a 1.4 hectare residential site with capacity for up to 250 new homes in the east end of Fremantle and close to the heart of the historic port city's central business district.
Development of a new affordable community at 19-25 Burt Street has the potential to create and support hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.
The Burt Street Fremantle project is on a well located site within the heart of Fremantle that is close to jobs, public transport and established amenities. Many of the 250 dwellings will have access to ocean and inner harbour views.
Minister for Housing, Peter Tinley said that the vision for Burt Street is to create a new affordable community that enriches the unique character of Fremantle.
"The Department expects the development to become a strong, vibrant and diverse community of people from all circumstances, close to the heart of Fremantle, and positively contribute to the surrounding neighbourhood," he said.
"The Department invites submissions from suitably qualified developers or consortia that embrace our vision, and possess the creativity, resources and expertise to develop something worthy of this spectacular location."
The McGowan Government has announced a rare opportunity for a private sector partner to help develop a 1.4 hectare residential site with capacity for up to 250 new homes in the east end of Fremantle and close to the heart of the historic port city's central business district.

The development will include a mix of social housing, affordable home ownership and rental opportunities, as well as properties for sale at market value.
The Department of Communities is undertaking a two-stage procurement process to identify a suitable developer or consortium. The Expression of Interest closes at 2:30pm WST on Friday 16 February 2018. Enquiries must be submitted no later than seven business days prior to the closing date.
